A useful starting point

Working technology can still leave unanswered questions.

Your business depends on IT. You should understand how well it supports you.

  • Could you recover your data if a server failed?
  • Are business email and administrator accounts protected?
  • Is outdated technology creating unnecessary risk?
  • What should you improve first—and what can wait?

The assessment

Look at how your IT fits together.

Accounts & email

Microsoft 365, administrator access, multi-factor authentication, email security, and remote access.

Networks & connectivity

Firewalls, internet connections, Wi-Fi, guest and business network separation, and VPN configuration.

Computers & infrastructure

Windows computers, servers, virtualization, updates, endpoint protection, and aging or unsupported technology.

Backups & recovery

Backup configuration, available restore evidence, recovery arrangements, and business continuity gaps.

Visibility & planning

Asset records, monitoring, documentation, a basic network diagram, and opportunities to simplify your IT.

How I work

Assess. Fix. Validate.

01

Assess

Start with a free introductory call, then agree the written scope, deliverables, access, schedule, and fixed fee. Review the environment using read-only checks wherever practical and explain the findings and business impact.

02

Fix

Prioritize the work and implement agreed improvements that address underlying issues. Remediation is optional, separately scoped, and quoted before work begins.

03

Validate

Verify agreed changes against clear acceptance checks. Recovery testing is separately agreed, with results and remaining limitations documented.

You can use the recommendations with your existing IT provider or internal staff. There is no requirement to purchase implementation or an ongoing support contract.

Defined improvement projects

Practical work after the findings.

Already know what needs attention? A project can start without a full assessment when the requirements are clear.

01

Separate guest and business networks

Review Wi-Fi and firewall configuration, design appropriate separation, then implement and validate agreed access rules.

02

Improve backup and recovery readiness

Review failed jobs and retention, correct agreed configuration gaps, and perform a separately scoped restore test to an approved destination.

03

Modernize aging servers

Assess dependencies, capacity, and support status. Plan an upgrade or migration with a maintenance window, validation, and rollback arrangements.

Illustrative project scopes. Each engagement is tailored and quoted separately.

About Sam

IT lessons from real incidents

Preparation makes a difference.

A clinic affected by ransomware. A manufacturer recovering after a fire. A firm balancing service recovery and data exposure.

Ransomware · Ontario

A small clinic. Most computers affected.

CIRA reported that ransomware encrypted files on 19 of a Toronto dental clinic’s 22 computers. Small environments can still face disruption across many devices.

Recovery success · Manufacturing

The office was lost. Recovery had another route.

When a fire destroyed local IT equipment, PMBL’s provider reports that cloud recovery made systems available again. Preparation changed the recovery options.

Service continuity · Data exposure

Keeping services running is only part of recovery.

The firm reported that its main practice system remained operational, while email was disrupted and archived information was taken. Recovery has more than one dimension.
